IPL Ten Franchises To Meet With New Interim Chairman Chirayu Amini

The ten franchises of the Indian Premier League are set to get a first up-close look at their new interim chairman Chirayu Amini, after the BCCI scheduled a meeting between the franchises and the BCCI top officials, including of course Amin.

After the IPL got over, and with Lalit Modi's immediate suspension, the franchises and the Board have not met, and this meeting - coming as it does just a day before the IPL's Governing Council meeting on June 25 - is expected to be significant.

According to reports, the BCCI has sent out a letter to the franchises, dated June 8, which states, "BCCI President, Shri. Shashank Manohar and Interim Chairman IPL, Shri. Chirayu Amin desire to meet the owners of the IPL franchise to discuss matters pertaining to the IPL."

The letter has been sent out by Board Secretary N Srinivasan (which incidentally means he also had to send out a letter to himself, being the owner of the Chennai Super Kings), and is addressed to all the franchises.

Ratnakar Shetty, the BCCI's chief administrative officer, and Sunder Raman, the IPL's CEO are also expected to attend the meeting.

One of the dominant questions at the meeting are likely to be the modalities for IPL-4, including the schedule, player retentions and fresh auctions.

The website quoted a top official of one of the franchises as saying, "Most would expect a road map, what is going to happen here on. We don't even know what will happen.

"Player auction, central revenues, the retention of players, the sponsorship avenues - these would top my list and I reckon most others would want to know the same."

The schedule of IPL-4 is also likely to figure as a key discussion point. Under Modi's regime, the schedule was a gargantuan 94 matches with all ten teams playing each other twice, much as the first 8 teams had done in IPLs 1, 2 and 3.

However, with a growing number of critics pointing out that having this number of matches is ridiculous and could very well lead to players getting injured, an option is being explored to divide the teams into two groups, which would result in a more manageable 68 matches.
