The 10 member nations ICC board will decide on Wednesday on former Australian Prime Minister John Howard`s bid for the ICC vice-presidency.
Howard has made some ground with his detractors, although the issue was not raised during a hearing between chief executives in Singapore on Sunday.The ICC board will deliberate on Howard`s nomination on Tuesday and Wednesday, and he requires the support of at least seven nations.
The ICC vice-president serves a two-year apprenticeship before becoming president of the game`s organising body, meaning Howard would be the top administrator of cricket in 2012 if he succeeds in two days` time.
South Africa and Sri Lanka are not keen for Howard to assume the role, while Zimbabwe remains uncommitted, The Sydney Morning Herald reports.
The Indian board has not made public its intentions, but it is a given fact that whichever way they vote, the Pakistan and Bangladesh boards will follow, the paper said.
Cricket Australia has already told their Zimbabwean counterparts if they do not support Howard`s bid they would not host the bilateral A-series next year that would help the African nation re-enter top level Test cricket.
