The Blue-Print For The Suspended IPL Commissioner’s Removal

Lalit Modi’s ouster as IPL Commissioner has formally begun with IPL governing Council Friday meeting and drafting the blue-print for the suspended IPL Commissioner’s removal.

As per reports, IPL governing council members held crucial deliberations over the possible replacement of Lalit Modi.

Giving further indication of the BCCI’s intention in this regard, Ravi Shastri, who is tipped to be the front-runner to replace Lalit Modi as the permanent IPL Commissioner, met with every individual franchise to discuss the future strategy of the cash-rich league.

The governing council also looked into charges of financial irregularities against suspended IPL chairman and Commissioner Lalit Modi.

Other issues that were discussed include the sale of stake in the Kings XI Punjab franchise and a review of a report on the investigations into the IPL by the government investigating agencies.

The IPL governing council meeting comes a day after the IPL team owners’ meeting with the BCCI officials on Thursday - the first since the suspension of Lalit Modi.


The meeting saw some contentious issues being discussed, including player retention and the cap on spending in the new season.

“We have to look ahead now,” Vijay Mallya, owner of the Royal Challengers Bangalore franchisee had said on Thursday.

Modi`s fate is likely to be determined in the July 3 Special General Body Meeting of the BCCI, which appears to have made up its mind to oust the suspended IPL Commissioner mainly on charges of financial irregularities.

Interestingly, some of the IPL franchise owners like Dr Mallya and Ness Wadia have come out openly in support of Lalit Modi.

Member of the IPL governing council Farooq Abdullah, who was present in today’s meeting, said that there is enough proof against suspended IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi.

Talking to the reporters outside the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai, Abdullah said that they have proof of several financial irregularities committed by Lalit Modi.

He said IPL governing council would formally decide the fate of Modi during the special governing council meeting on July 3.
